SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 33
(By Senators Jackson, Plymale, Redd, Sharpe, Fanning, Anderson,
 Bailey, Boley, Bowman, Burnette, Caldwell, Chafin, Craigo, Deem,
 Edgell, Facemyer, Helmick, Hunter, Kessler, Love, McCabe,
 McKenzie, Minard, Minear, Mitchell, Oliverio, Prezioso, Ross,
 Rowe, Snyder, Sprouse, Unger, Wooton and Tomblin, Mr. President)
Expressing sadness at the passing of the Honorable Lyle A. Smith,
 former member of the West Virginia Senate.

Whereas, The Honorable Lyle A. Smith was born April 6, 1904,
 at Lavalette, the son of Ira J. and Virginia M. (Wilkinson) Smith;
 and

Whereas, The Honorable Lyle A. Smith received his education in
 Cabell County schools and attended Marshall University; and

Whereas, The Honorable Lyle A. Smith served his nation with
 pride during World War II in the armed forces of the United States;
 and

Whereas, The Honorable Lyle A. Smith's membership in the
 Shriners, Masons, Elks Club Lodge and Johnson Memorial Methodist
 Church in Huntington displayed his great dedication to his
 community; and

Whereas, The Honorable Lyle A. Smith, a successful
 businessman, served as President of the American Business Club in
 Huntington and as National President of the American Business Club; and

Whereas, The Honorable Lyle A. Smith was elected to the West
 Virginia State Senate from the 5th senatorial district in 1954 and
 served until 1970.  During his tenure in the Senate, he was
 responsible for legislative acts which were enacted for the
 betterment of West Virginia and its citizens; and

Whereas, Sadly, the Honorable Lyle A. Smith passed away on May
 24, 2001, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service to the
 citizens of West Virginia; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby expresses its sincere sympathy at the
 passing of the Honorable Lyle A. Smith, former member of the West
 Virginia Senate; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
 a copy of this resolution to the family of the Honorable Lyle A.
 Smith.
